Sounding the Alarm on Global Antisemitism: A Call for Immediate Action at the UN HRC 56th session

In a joint statement before the UN Human Rights Council, the World Jewish Congress, the European Union of Jewish Students, and the IJL sounded the alarm for the unprecedented surge of antisemitism and hatred around the world.

“Since October 7, our members and communities across the globe have been physically and verbally attacked, harassed, isolated and marginalized. Jewish homes and institutions have been vandalized; Jewish students are excluded on campuses; antisemitic discourse online has reached record levels.”

“We are sounding the alarm because many seek to justify the horrific events of October 7. They wish to legitimize terrorism and find excuses for the genocidal ideology of Hamas. This has created a threating environment for Jewish individuals, who do not feel safe anymore in their homes or synagogues. Their ability to exercise their freedom of religion and their way of life is severely curtailed.”

“These developments pose a severe threat to national security, democracy and the rule of law, and human rights for all. We are sounding today, here, the alarm. And we hope the assembled states will listen.”
