Par brīvu Palestīnu case

The Legal Center is supporting legal proceedings relating to antisemitic incitement connected to the activities of the group “Par Brīvu Palestīnu,” including public demonstrations and social media activity targeting Latvia’s Jewish community. In May 2025, the group filed an appeal with the Latvian Supreme Court, and the Legal Center submitted an amicus brief in July 2025, which was accepted by the Court.

On March 16, 2026, the Supreme Court annulled the district court’s decision upholding the ban on the protest and returned the case to the lower court for further review. The Court found that the lower court’s analysis was insufficient and instructed it to reassess the legality of the ban more narrowly, including how slogans connected to the group are understood by the Latvian public and by those affected by them, including the Jewish community.
