Daniel Reisner started out his career in the mid 80’s with around 20 years of military service, specializing in international law and national security. For almost a decade, between 1995 and 2004, he served as the head of the Israel Defense Force’s International Law Department. In this capacity, Reisner was the senior lawyer responsible for advising the Israeli leadership on a wide variety of issues, including international law, the middle-east peace process, Israeli-Palestinian relations and counter-terrorism operations. Reisner retired from military service in 2004 with the rank of Colonel.

Partially in parallel to the above, between 1994 and 2014 Daniel Reisner served as a senior member of Israel’s peace negotiation teams, working in the triple role of negotiator, legal advisor and drafter.  In this capacity, he advised all Israeli Prime Ministers (including Rabin, Peres, Barak, Sharon, Olmert and Netanyahu), and participated in numerous negotiation sessions and summits, including those in Amman, Wye River, Camp David and Taba (the most recent of these was the US-sponsored Israeli-Palestinian negotiation headed by US Secretary of State Kerry which ended in 2014). Among the notable agreements which Reisner negotiated and drafted are the Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace of 1994 and the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement of 1995, both of which remain in effect to this day.

Following his retirement from government service in 2004, Daniel Reisner went into private practice, and for the last 13 years has been a partner at Herzog, Fox & Neeman, Israel’s premier international law firm, where he heads the firm’s international law, international trade and national security department.

For the last three years Daniel has undertaken a leadership position in the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (IJL) where he currently serves as the Deputy President. In this capacity, Reisner has been very active with regard to the ICC’s possible investigation against Israel, submitting both a complaint and, with the Court’s approval, an Amicus brief to the ICC on behalf of the IJL in these proceedings.

Parallel to his professional accomplishments, Daniel Reisner has also pursued an active academic career, and currently teaches in two of Israel’s leading academic institutions.
