31 Spring 2026 and at the conclusion of the Nuremberg Trials and those that followed: no one was punished for perpetrating the Holocaust — niether the German people nor their allies. The German people continue to pay, to this day, compensation and reparations, mainly for stolen property, but the overwhelming majority of those who committed crimes against the Jewish People simply returned home, while local and international judicial institutions provided no true answer. And the vast majority of Jewish people — to their credit and greatness — did not succumb to vengeance, but chose to build new lives, personally and nationally, and their leadership demonstrated national and human responsibility during one of the most difficult periods in their history.n Prof. Dina Porat is the Founding Head of the Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry and has served as Head of the Department of Jewish History, Head of the Rosenberg School for Jewish Studies, as well as incumbent of the Alfred P. Slaner Chair in Antisemitism and Racism, all at Tel Aviv University. She served as the Chief Historian at Yad Vashem from 2010 to 2021 and is now its Academic Advisor. She has received numerous awards for the majority of her publications, including the Jewish National Book Award for her biography of Abba Kovner (2010) and the Bahat Prize for the Nakam book (2018). She was named Best Teacher of Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Humanities in 2004 and received the Raoul Wallenberg Medal in 2012. She was listed among the 50 leading Israeli scholars by The Marker in 2013 and among the 50 leading women in Israel by Forbes in 2018. She was recently awarded the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor for 2025. She also served as a Visiting Professor at Harvard, Columbia, New York, Venice and the Hebrew University. She has supervised more than 30 M.A. and 20 Ph.D. students, served as an expert on Israeli Foreign Ministry delegations to UN world conferences, and acted as academic advisor to the International Task Force on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (now IHRA).
